For the first time, an all-women team of Indian engineers and scientists has set up a wind-based energy station in Antarctica under the “Shakti-Vayu” mission. Installed near Maitri base, the station uses custom-designed wind turbines capable of functioning at -50°C. The team also built a small shelter using snow-based insulation and AI temperature regulation. This project is a major step toward reducing diesel usage in polar regions. It also marks India’s push for women leadership in frontier science.
